The Boston Marathon
When the Boston Marathon Bombing took place it put the whole United States attention on it because of how shocking and horrific it was. It was April 15, 2013 and CNN and other news channels had a huge job in getting the right information to keep the viewers informed on who they think did it because people didn't want them to get away. They showed the bloodshed and who the victims were as well as what was used as a bomb and what the motive was. They kept looking at pictures of people running and speculating who did it based on pictures. When they finally found out who the suspects were they started getting more and more information about them with info such as jobs, friends of theirs, schools they went to, and just general info about them. One of the suspects was Tamerlan Tsarnaev the older brother and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev the younger brother. They were originally from Kyrgyzstan but they moved to the US in 2002. Dzhokhar attended the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and seemed like a nice, sociable regular person and his friends found it hard to believe that he was the bomber because it was so out of character for him. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dzhokhar_Tsarnaev
Tamerlan was a boxer who already had arrests and was suspected of different things but he was still out. As they were trying to find more information the city of Boston was basically closed because they knew that they were still in Boston even though some feared they were back in their home country. There was a manhunt and everybody was tuned in on CNN to see what new info that they had on where they were and who else may have been involved in the bombings. They killed a police officer on April 18th and stole somebodies SUV. At night the bombers got into a gun fight with police and the Dzhokhar got into a car and drove off and accidentally ran over Tamerlan who had gun wounds who died at the hospital. http://www.history.com/topics/boston-marathon-bombings
Dzhokhar was on the run and it was big news because they thought that they were going to get him in the gun fight they found footage of him in a gas station but they couldn't find him anywhere. thousands of police officers, SWAT team and the FBI were all searching Boston and closed of the streets so nobody could get away. The whole day the news stations were reporting the event and getting clues by the minute. Then one big report came in that somebody found a man hiding in his boat and it was Dzhokhar. They were covering the event live and because they knew it was him. With tons of FBI, SWAT team and Police with guns pointed at the boat and finally Dzhokhar came out of the boat with his hands up, he was bloody and tired. It was exciting for the viewer to see because nobody wanted him to get away with what he did. He was taken into the ambulance and survived the injuries that he suffered. His trial went on for 2 years and the news kept checking in on his status with his trial. On May 15, 2015 he was sentenced to death by lethal injection. The news had a huge job covering this because at times they risked their lives to get footage of the scene. The news had to cover the story a lot in 2013 but they also had to keep up with it for 2 years which makes it even harder. The news did a very good job of keeping up with it and giving the viewers info to make it interesting to see if and when they catch them.
